The After School Workshop
20+ years of innovation and complete after school programming benefitting your child.
The After School Workshop Programs
Varying by semester, enroll your children in classes taught by experienced professionals. Tennis, chess, dance, martial arts, foreign languages, musical theater, minecraft, and 3-D printing are just a few of the regular offerings! You are welcome to sign your child up for specialized classes without participating in the daily Workshop program.
Personalized and personable daily after school enrichment includes teacher-supervised homework help, engaging activities and daily outdoor play. Programs highlights include science and nature study, computers, sports and art. Students can be enrolled in The Workshop for any combination of weekdays. The Workshop participants receive a discount on specialized classes that they take on their Workshop days.
The Workshop Experience
What Sets Us Apart
In a warm, supportive and low-key environment, your student works on homework as well as projects that are engaging and inspiring. Children develop both academic and social skills through collaborative work across various age groups. All activities occur under the guidance of professional staff. We focus on each individual and know their families as well, which lends for a truly personalized experience.
In small groups, children work individually on their assignments, under the supportive eyes of teachers. The environment is quiet, focused and conducive to developing solid study habits. Emphasis is placed on: instilling values of scholarship; academic proficiency, and building self-esteem.
Sheila N. Bandman, Founder and Director of The After School Workshop (ASW), studied child development at Harvard University’s School of Education; received an MA from Sarah Lawrence College; and participated in a child development program in London with Anna Freud. Mrs. Bandman is a licensed New York State teacher. Prior to founding ASW, she was a reading specialist at the Nightingale-Bamford School and taught at the Early Childhood Center at Sarah Lawrence as well as at Bronxville Elementary School.
Dawn Young is the Assistant Director and Site Supervisor of ASW. Ms. Young, who has been with ASW for over 20 years, supervises all staff and spearheads the program’s administration.
ASW, licensed by New York State, is hosted at P.S.6 on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. Hours are 2:35 pm to 6:00 pm and students can sign up for full or partial Workshop sessions as well as specialty classes. ASW follows the school schedule and opens early on early-dismissal days. All events occur on site and Workshop participants have exclusive use of the spacious P.S.6 roof! Check out our current offerings!
Children must bring their own snacks, clearly labeled with their name. Please remind your children that they are not allowed to share snacks due to allergies.
